History
The scheme was commissioned in 1978 by the Government of Kenya (GOK) under the Ministry of Water and Irrigation. It was operated by the Government until 1989. The National Water Conservation and Pipeline Corporation took over the running of the scheme in 1990 and run it up to February 2004.
With the coming into force of the reforms promulgated under the Water Act of 2002 which required the project to be handed over to the community, Ngandori Nginda Water Consumers Association took over the project in March 2004.
